Piles of Junk.

The demolition is nearing completion. All the asbestos has been removed and most of the fixtures and plumbing are laying in piles surrounding the building, waiting to be recycled.

These piles represent progress. This pile of metal piping will be recycled and replaced with new plumbing which will significantly extend the life of BNB.

Cast iron tubs which were cut out of the Nason bathrooms.

The Nason/Brewer breezeway stairs lay to one side. These stairs will be replaced with a parking lot accessible elevator which will bring BNB into compliance with the American Disabilities Act.

Separate containers for recyclables and trash.

Two Nason rooms with the restrooms demolished to make way for one shared bathroom.

Four of the construction crew hard at work removing debris from the old breezeway stairs. It is their hard work that will turn this shell of a building into a home for a generation of new students.

Construction continues on this beautiful fall day.

Drawings on the Floor.

On the floor you can see the faint grease markings for the walls. Next to the hallway you can see two compressed closet areas (wardrobes will be used for supplemental space). Farther from the wall is the expanded bathroom markings.

The color squares demonstrate the layout of the Blanton/Brewer restroom updates.

Construction Worker in BNB Demolishing Bathroom

The BNB Renovations have been underway for over a month now and they keep getting better.  Friday, October 5, 2007, the Board of Governors approved additional money to expand the renovations to include a complete renovation of all bathrooms in the resident rooms (as seen above). Please check back after October 20th for the new BNB Renovation Blog.

The doorway ahead will no longer have doors at the breezeway instead the hallway will extend the entire length of the building.

The radiators and carpeting have been removed to make way for new finishes and equipment.

A Nason room with carpeting and radiators removed.

Standing in Nason looking towards Blanton. This is similar to the openness that will exist once the breezeway doors are removed.

The interior of Brewer NE corner. This which was a formerly a sorority chapter room will become two rooms; a community study room and computer workstation.

Formerly a four person room this will become either a sorority chapter room or a floor lounge space.

The entrance stairs have been demolished and will be replaced as part of the renovation.

The bathroom separating the rooms is in the process of being demolished.

The new bathrooms boast additional floor space and will include all new fixture, plumbing and finishes.

The doorway ahead will no longer be at a lower level. The first floor breezeways will be level the room floor level.

Ramps will be installed in the SE and NE corners to permit access to the lounges and the 1st floor east wings.
